Adam Burley

Managing Director - Growth & Development, Rio Tinto

Adam Burley is Managing Director, Growth & Development for Rio Tinto’s Copper product group, accountable for the company’s copper growth portfolio. In this role, he leads teams responsible for mergers and acquisitions, business development, and the advancement of a diverse pipeline of copper projects and partnerships that support Rio Tinto’s long-term ambition to supply the world with sustainable copper.<br /> Adam’s portfolio includes major development projects such as Resolution Copper in the United States and Winu in Australia; joint ventures including La Granja in Peru and Nuevo Cobre in Chile; and Rio Tinto’s non-managed interest in Escondida, Chile. He also oversees Nuton, Rio Tinto’s innovative copper leaching technology venture, which has the potential to unlock copper resources faster and with a lower environmental footprint.<br /> Adam joined Rio Tinto more than 25 years ago as an Exploration Geologist and has since held senior leadership roles across Africa, Europe, the United States, and South America. He holds a Master’s degree in Geology from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and has served on several industry and corporate boards. He lives in England with his wife and four children.
