Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain

Ana Isabel de Palacio y del Valle Lersundi is a lawyer specializing in international and European Union law, and founder of the law firm Palacio y Asociados. She served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2002, and as the first woman to hold the post of Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 2002 to 2004. She later served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the World Bank Group (2006-2008). She is a visiting professor at Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and regularly appears as an analyst at international geopolitical forums.
