Mario Marcel is Chile’s Minister of Finance since March 2022. He holds a degree in Commercial Engineering from the University of Chile and a Master of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Cambridge, UK.

From 2016 to 2022, he served as President of the Central Bank of Chile, after being appointed as a Board Member in 2015. His international experience includes senior roles at the World Bank, OECD, and IDB. He also served as Chile’s Budget Director between 2000 and 2006. Minister Marcel has conducted academic work in Chile and the UK and has advised international organizations and governments. He has published extensively on macroeconomics, public finance, monetary policy, and social policy.
